Marian Mitchell, the 300th customer of Harrow Council’s successful Help2Let scheme will be presented with flowers by housing portfolio Councillor Bob Currie on Monday 22nd October.

Mother of two Marian was the latest homeseeker to be helped by the council's housing service to find affordable rented accommodation, despite unprecedented accommodation shortage.

She found herself without a home in June when her landlord notified her that he wanted to take her house back, leaving her and her two daughters, aged 16 and nine, homeless.

On approaching Harrow Council she was placed in emergency accommodation and referred, by the council's housing advisory service, to the Help2Let scheme which assists in bringing tenants and landlords together.

Using Help2Let Marian was introduced to landlords and was able to register her interest in three bed properties she found herself or provided through the Help2Let team.

Under the scheme, tenants find their own home through private allocations, but the Help2Let team also recruits landlords to the scheme and informs homeseekers of appropriate rented properties it becomes aware of.

Marian successfully applied for the tenancy of the second home she viewed under the scheme, a three bed house in Harrow, where she and her family have lived happily since.

Marian who works as a hairdresser said: "Getting onto the Help2Let scheme really helped me to find a nice home.

"I really like our new home and we are all very comfortable and feel secure here."

More than 250 tenants have now attended Harrow Council's Tenants Training Sessions for which they receive a certificate that they can show prospective landlords.

The Help2let service can offer landlords a guaranteed rental income and tenant management services. The tenants must be referred to the scheme by the housing advisory service.

Council portfolio for housing, Cllr Bob Currie said: "I am delighted that our highly successful Help2Let scheme has helped Marian and so many others with their accommodation needs.

"At a time of such unprecedented shortage of affordable housing and rising housing need, Help2Let is proving highly successful in bringing landlords and tenants together and to meet housing need."
