Harrow landlords can take advantage of London’s first fully managed lettings service run by a Council in a fresh attempt by the local authority to meet growing demand for affordable homes.

Harrow's new property management service will find tenants, manage and inspect properties, and guarantee rent with up to three months of payment in advance. The innovative step aims to bridge the gap between the high demand for social housing and the lack of available homes, giving landlords a guaranteed return on their property.
It is the latest addition to Harrow's successful Help2Let scheme which matches residents on the housing waiting list with landlords looking for tenants. Previously the scheme offered only a tenant finding service but the new property management offer aims to sign up more landlords and provide even more homes for the less well off in Harrow.
Portfolio holder for housing, Cllr Bob Currie said: "With major pressure on housing services, the private rented sector has become more important than ever. We are working with landlords in Harrow to create more choice for our residents. By supporting and boosting this sector, we can also drive up standards in the rental market. We are building up a database of available, decent properties in the area as a way of bridging the gap between supply and demand for housing."
Under the scheme, the council puts residents in need of social housing in touch with approved private landlords, whose properties must meet set standards. This tenant finding service is paid for by the landlords, who receive expert advice and support from an account manager in the Help2Let team. So far more than 200 residents have been housed in this way. And the council is working hard to find even more suitable homes.
Landlord Frixos Georgiou (67) describes his experience of Harrow Council's Help2Let leasing service: "I had a really bad experience with my last tenants that were placed through a housing association so I was nervous about using the council's scheme. They said they could offer me a stress free letting where they looked after everything, but I was still worried and need a bit of convincing. That was months ago and I am so glad that I went with the council's Help2let team."
"The house was left in a terrible state after my previous tenants and the council helped me to get it back into a great condition with advice on grants. The new tenants they found for me really look after the place so I couldn't be more pleased with the results. It has been marvellous and completely stress free for me, the service and my new tenants are a dream."
